The other side of Verona

Verona is a city well known for its ancient traditions and art. But Verona is much more than this.  The Achille Forti Modern Gallery located in the Palazzo della Ragione is an example of modernity and constitutes the other side of Verona: contemporaneity versus classicism.

The Achille Forti Collection was set up in accordance with the wishes of Achille Forti, a botanist from a middle class family born in Verona who had a great sense of responsibility. He left most part of his legacy and his own art collection to a city museum devoted to the arts.

Over time his heritage was enriched and developed mostly through private contributions and donations. Today, as a result of this, the collection has more than 1.400 works of art, of which 1100 dates from the early XIX century.

Francesco Hayez’s extraordinary Meditazione, a painting form 1851, as well as Pompeo Marino Molmenti’s Pia dei Tolome from 1853 are some of the famous works that constitute the Achille Forti Modern art Collection.

Palazzo Victoria recommends you to visit this modern site of the city only five minutes walking from the hotel.

Opera & Art Déco: Tamara de Lempicka

Many artists have had struggles throughout their lives and many don’t get the recognition their artwork deserves in their lifetime. Maybe because she’s more contemporary, maybe because not everyone is a fan of Art Déco, Tamara de Lempicka is one of those artists. Her beautiful painting, her female nudes and her original portraits reveal a sensitivity that few other of her colleagues had at the time. Now, from September 20, 2015, to January 31, 2016, Verona is hosting an exhibition solely dedicated to Lempicka.

If you’re coming to Verona this fall, you can’t miss this monographic. It will be located at the piano salon at the Palazzo Forti, which serves as headquarters for the AMO Arena Museo Opera. The exhibition revolves around Lempicka’s portrayal of more than 200 operas through oils, designs, photography, watercolors, videos… The artwork records the genre in chronological order, from Parisian operas of the 1930s, to the latest productions of the 50s.

Being the fans of opera we are here in Verona, we encourage you deeply to take a look at this wonderful and exquisite exhibition. You won’t be disappointed on the Polish artist! After a day of art, we’ll be waiting for you at Palazzo Victoria.
