A tour around Verona in 9 steps

Known as one of the most romantic cities in the world, Verona is a place with which all its visitors fall in love. In fact, some of Palazzo Victoria’s former guests, who came only for two or three days, always asked us about how they could make the most of their Veronese experience. We’ve thought about it and we’ve created a little 9 steps schedule for those of you who are in Verona for only a couple of days. Are you ready to fall in love with Verona?

  1.  Now that the spring arrived you can enjoy some ‘terrace’ time and have a drink in Piazza delle Erbe.
  2. You can watch the stunning, panoramic view from the top of Torre dei Lamberti.
  3. If you’re coming with your partner, you can show him/her your love once more at la Casa di Giulietta.
  4. Don’t forget about crossing the bridge over the river Adige and visiting il Museo di Castelvecchio.
  5. Let out the shopaholic inside you in Via Mazzini, Piazza Bra and Corso Porta Borsari
  6. …and if you need to recharge your batteries you can have lunch at Borsari 36
  7.  Afterwards, you can drop by L’Arena and travel back to the Roman era
  8. In the Giusti Garden the first flowers of the spring are starting to show. You can’t miss it!
  9. And, before you leave… have one last drink at Victoria Lounge e Cafè!

In Verona a good time is always guaranteed. Why not coming and feeling it for yourself?

3 essential Veronese wines to try when you’re in town

You might come to Verona for several reasons. It is one of the most romantic cities in the world, home to Romeo and Juliet’s love story. It is also unique in its ancient beauty and some even say it’s magical. You might also want to come for our football teams—although, granted, we are not precisely famous for that (go Chievo!) But what we can all agree on is that Verona, and the Veneto region, is a privileged producer of some of the finest wines in the country. So today we bring you 3 essential Veronese wines you should try before you leave.

1. Valpolicella. East of Lake Garda, the Valpolicella region has been producing wine since the Roman age. And no doubt why: this red wine is delicious! Experts say it’s fruity with notes of cherry and it is easy to pair with food. You will find it in most restaurants and wine bars of the region.

2. Amarone. If wines had a prom king, Amarone would get the crown every year. It has become one of the most appreciated Italian wines for its rare making technique. Wineries use the same grapes as for the Valpolicella wines, but Amarone grapes are left to dry, ferment and age for at least two years before bottling the wine. Word from the experts is that it’s structured, powerful, elegant and smooth, with high alcohol content. A must-drink!

3. Soave. In the prom metaphor, Soave would always be Amarone’s queen. It is one of the most consumed white wines in Italy and the most exported internationally. Soave has been produced in the region of the same name, at the East of Verona, from the middle ages. Experts say it is light, dry and savory and it is very common to drink it as an aperitif.

Welcome to the Euro Carnevale 2016

Once a year the city of Verona celebrates its most famous carnival: the Euro Carnevale, considered one of the most beautiful carnivals in Italy.  This year it will be celebrated on the 5th of February.

This celebration preserves an ancient tradition of more than 470 years. The event aims to commemorate the end of an epidemic that killed, in 1660, many of Verona’s residents of hunger and illness. When the epidemic was extinguished Verona’s residents indicate the end of the stuffer’s period by distributing Gnocchi -a local folk food made of mushed potatoes and flour, boiled in water and served with different sauces- to the people.

Thousands of people enjoy this traditional celebration and its atmosphere. Among the events that should be remarked is the cruising contest on the Adige River and the mask parade that starts in Piazza Bra.

Due to the amount of people attending the event, Palazzo Victoria recommends you to book a room in advanced for you to fully enjoy the Euro Carnevale 2016.
